We’ve just launched a new website for the Scottish Government and Celcis (the Centre for Excellence for looked after children in Scotland) called We Can and Must Do Better. The project involved designing and building a site which acts as an on-line repository of training materials for professionals and interested members of the public to access and use.

The website will be a vital resource bank for everyone in Scotland concerned with improving the outcomes for looked after children, care leavers and their families. The materials are designed for a range of users with 20 different units with course suggestions as well as presentations, group activities, videos and reading materials to enable users to design and create their own courses.

Previously the  material had been provided on a DVD but this meant resources could not be updated and the DVD interface was itself rather cumbersome to navigate. Hookson’s role was to develop a user interface which would be simple to use, with clear navigation to ensure users could quickly access the resources that they were looking for. Due to the sensitivity of the subject matter, much of the material is only available to registered users of the site so the site needed to include a mechanism to enable registrations. Together with the project team we ensured the site was fully tested with a number of user groups prior to launch.

The website has been developed using Expression Engine which allows the project team at Celcis to update resources quickly and easily. Click here to see the website.
